Vermont - Part 2

I have such great memories of going there when I was little. The key places I remember going whenever we visited Vermont/New Hampshire were Clark's Bears, Santa's Village & The Old Man in the Mountain. Clark's was always my favourite or at least the one I have the most memories of. They still have a lot of the same things there, but they've upgrade some things as well. They have the bears ride Segways now and there's a Segway park where you can try one out, and they have an acrobat show in between the bear shows. The son and daughter are the ones that run the show now. But the bears still love ice cream!

Mr. Murray Clark is still alive and can be seen watching the bear shows and giving visitors directions, but he's no longer working with the bears.

Vermont - Part 1

The end of July we spent the weekend with friends in Vermont, camping, motorcycle riding and site seeing.

Lake of Bays Sunday

On our way back to the cottage we stopped at some rapids on the Oxtongue River.

Deb, Erika, me & Andrew

We were hoping to get some wake boarding in today but the water was even rougher than on Friday and it was cold, so we went for a boat ride instead. We went to Bigwin Island to look at the AMAZING golf course and club house.

Some of the "cottages" and "boathouses" are gorgeous and beyond extravagant. This is someones boathouse. The cottage is up on the hill behind it.

Cottage & Boathouse!!!

This is more like it.

Unfortunately it was time to go home. The traffic was horrible between the cottage and Toronto. We stopped at Weber's to get a veggie burger. It was pretty good considering how many people they were pushing through there. They do such good business that they built a walking bridge over the the highway so that people don't stop traffic trying to cross the road or pull into the restaurant.

Algonquin Provincial Park

Our first hike of the day was the Peck Lake trail.

Next we did the Whiskey Rapids trail.

Making Tinfoil Dinners, after all that hiking we were hungry.

We did go on a walk after supper and found a nice little cove to watch the storm in the distance.

Lake of Bays Friday

We were supposed to leave right after work Thursday and head to "the cottage" and then to Algonquin Provincial Park to go camping with Erika, David, Michael, Deb, Corey & Diana (and David's friend Todd). But Ivy, that always delivers like clockwork decided not to cooperate and was overdue. She finally went into labour at two a.m. Friday morning. There were some minor complications but she delivered our first set of triplets, two boys and a girl. We finally got on the road around 6 a.m., stopped and picked up Deb on the way, and got to the cottage right as everyone was finishing up breakfast/lunch.

We spent the afternoon playing on the lake. First stopping to check out the Tree House that David & Michael's grandpa had built.

The water was pretty rough, Todd was the only one that ventured out on the wake board.

And we went Cliff Jumping. It took me awhile to get up the courage to do it. But it was fun. I think I worked on all my issues sufficiently that day. Climbed 100 feet up into the air into a swaying tree house, rode on the back of a ski-doo with someone else driving, and jumped off a cliff. The picture is of Deb, Me, and Erika jumping together.

Once we headed to the campground we were greeted by this scene as we pulled into the parking lot to get our camping spot.

Yes, you saw that bear paw hanging out of the bear trailer correctly. They were actually carrying him to the trailer when we pulled in. I guess he's been a little too bold around the campers so they're taking him to a more remote area. Although rumour had it that they had already done this once or twice with him and he keeps coming back.
